A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey shows that 41% would vote for their district’s Republican congressional candidate while 38% would choose the Democratic candidate.
Fifty-four percent (54%) of all voters say the average congressional Democrat is more liberal than they are, while 36% believe the average Republican congressman is more conservative in comparison to themselves. Forty-four percent (44%) say their own representative in Congress is about the same as them ideologically.
Voters not affiliated with either party like GOP candidates by a 37% to 21% margin.
Forty-five percent (45%) of voters say it’s better for the country if the White House and Congress are each run by a different political party. Twenty-seven percent (27%) disagree and say it’s better to have one political party running both branches of government, as is currently the case.
Meanwhile 415 of GOP voters say republicans are very likely to win the White house in 2012, 34% say somewhat Likely to win.
