Virginia Governor: Republican Raises More Than Three Democrats Combined

Virginia Republican Bob McDonnell raised $3.7 million in the past two months in this years campaign for governor — more than the combined total of the three Democrats who are vying to oppose him in the November election.

According to campaign finance reports filed this week, McDonnell, a former state attorney general, took in $1.5 million from the Republican National Committee and $750,000 from the Republican Governors Association — more than half of his total receipts for the period. The two groups that will be aiding his general election campaign against the winner of a June 9 Democratic primary that includes former Democratic National Committee chairman Terry McAuliffe, former state Rep. Brian Moran and state Sen. Creigh Deeds.

McAuliffe, for years a top fundraiser in the Democratic Party, took in $1.8 million between April 1 and May 27. That was greater than the combined receipts reported by Moran ($844,000) and Deeds ($676,000).
