Today's Virginian-Pilot includes an article about the latest poll of the 2009 gubernatorial race -- Mason-Dixon shows Republican Bob McDonnell leading Democrat Creigh Deeds 48-40 percent among likely voters, with 12 percent undecided.
Pollster Brad Coker calls McDonnell's margin in the contest "significant" with just more than three weeks until Election Day.
Here are a few other data points found in the Mason-Dixon analysis:
In addition to McDonnell's overall lead in the poll, he is running ahead of Deeds among whites, men, every age group other than the 18-34 age bracket and all regions of the state except vote-rich northern Virginia.
Deeds leads McDonnell by a "statistically insignificant" margin in Hampton Roads (42-43 percent), and his advantage in northern Virginia is less than 10 points (50-41 percent), Coker observes.
