GOP seeds starting to grow in Garden State, and climbing up the Mountain State

(RCP).After a month of potential game-changing moments -- a visit from President Obama and the selection of a running mate -- Gov. Jon Corzine (D) has only lost ground in the latest Monmouth University poll.

General Election Matchup -- Likely Voters
Christie 50 (+5)
Corzine 36 (-1)

(GOP12).Public Policy Polling's new poll helps confirm Survey USA's, released July 29. That poll had McDonnell up on Democrat, Creigh Deeds, 15%.

PPP now has McDonnell up 14%, which is a +8% jump from the last time the group polled the race.

Notably, McDonnell has a 19% lead among indies, and a more enthusiastic base.

.... roughly 60% of people who voted for McCain last fall are planning to come out while only 42% of those who voted for Obama are.
